According to the official information, released by the company on its official website, Astarta put into operation modern bioenergy complex in Globino, Poltava region. Company was visited by representative of European bank of Reconstruction and Development on October 22, as a representative of the lender for the current project. Complex is producing biogas as a result of fermentation processing of sugar production remains and other bi-products. Complex produces up to 150 thousand cubic meters of biogas per day, which is equal to approximately 75 thousand cubic meters of natural gas. Complex will satisfy up to 50% of Globino sugar plant demand for natural gas during sugar beet processing season. At the moment biogas is produced from beet pulp, which is a residue of sugar beet processing. Other types of biomass are intended to be used in the future. It is expected that biogas complex will be able to supply another Astarta operational unit in Globino – soybean processing plant. Sevki Acuner, Director of EBRD stated that Astarta is setting new benchmark for other producers in Ukraine in terms of renewable energy use and innovation. Viktor Ivanchyk, CEO of Astarta stated that company views the project as a perfect opportunity to minimize operational risks in terms of relying on imported gas as well as minimize company’s costs.
