Belarus, Georgia to expand cooperation in agriculture

2014-04-17 10:49:25

Belarus and Georgia intend to expand cooperation in agriculture, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Mikhail Myatlikov as he met with a Georgian delegation in Minsk on 16 April.

Belarus-Georgia relations are developing fast, said Mikhail Myatlikov. Therefore, the expansion of the range of exports shipped to Georgia is being discussed. Plans have been made to bring about manufacturing cooperation in the foreseeable future, including the establishment of joint ventures.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia Kakha Baindurashvili praised the high level of the meeting’s organization and underlined that Belarus-Georgia trade and economic relations develop in a very favorable manner. Every year Belarus-Georgia trade turnover increases.

“Belarusian products, including agricultural ones, are famed in Georgia for their quality and affordable prices,” said the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia. He added that new avenues for cooperation between the two countries had emerged. “Plans have been made to advance cooperation in civil engineering, finance, and agriculture,” added Kakha Baindurashvili. The manufacturing of dairy products was mentioned as an area where Belarus and Georgia can come to terms.

The two countries intend to launch joint operations in the civil engineering industry and the furniture industry. “Belarusian furniture is poorly represented in Georgia while the merchandise surely deserves close attention,” remarked Kakha Baindurashvili.

The meeting was organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with assistance of the Embassy of Georgia in Belarus and the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. A business matchmaking session also took place.

The Belarusian side was represented by Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mikhail Myatlikov, First Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Marinich, and representatives of 90 enterprises. The latter included Minsk Tractor Works, Vitex, Pinskdrev, and Slodych. The Georgian side was represented by Deputy Agriculture Minister David Natroshvili, Deputy Foreign Minister David Dzhalaganiya, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia Kakha Baindurashvili, and representatives of the business circles, who were interested in cooperation opportunities.

In 2013 Belarus-Georgia trade totaled $63 million.
