One of the country’s major agricultural enterprises, the Mykolaiv-based company Nibulon increased spring crop planted area for the 2011 harvest by 39.7%, or by 11.6 Th ha to 40.8 Th ha. This was reported by Nibulon’s press service. “Spring crops were planted to 40.8 Th ha this season, including 15.9 Th ha under corn, 13.5 Th ha under sunflower, 3.4 Th ha under soy, 3.3 Th ha under sorghum, 1.1 Th ha under barley, 230 ha under buckwheat and roughly 2 Th ha under other crops,” reads the report. The company points out that soy area was doubled compared to 2010 (it accounts for 5% of the overall crop acreage), and corn and soy crops were increased, too. In addition, the first treatment of winter grains with herbicides and fungicides is coming to an end (23 Th ha has been treated to date out of the projected 29 Th ha).
Growers purchased fertilizers and plant protection agents for the second treatment. The agency reported the company’s winter crop acreage to reach 31.6 Th ha. Nibulon is a large producer and exporter of agricultural commodities and a stevedoring company. The enterprise farms an area of over 70 Th ha.
