Coca-Cola Considering Listing on Shanghai Stock Exchange

June 1, Coca-Cola Co., the world’s largest soft drink producer, is considering a listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported today, citing Coca-Cola’s public affairs and communication director for Asia Geoff Walsh as saying.
“We’re interested in exploring the opportunity to list our stock on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and we continue to have positive discussions with Chinese government officials,” Walsh said.
Coca-Cola has built three plants in Inner Mongolia province last October as it looks to increase investments in China to as much as $2 billion.
It is one of a number of multi-national corporations looking for opportunities to sell shares in Shanghai, as the municipal government is expected to approve of a board for the listing of overseas companies in mainland China within 2011.
Other companies showing interest in Shanghai’s stock exchange include HSBC Holdings PLC and Bank of East Asia (China) Ltd.
