Astarta discussing joint project with Danone

A big Ukrainian producer of agricultural goods, holding company Astarta, began a discussion with one of Europe's leading manufacturers of dairy products, French company Danone, on a joint project in the production and processing of milk in Ukraine. This was disclosed by an assistant general manager of Astarta, Yana Kavushevska, according to whom the project can start as early as in 2011.
The company has been working on the Ukrainian market since 1993, and currently in addition to six sugar mills the holding company has more than 40 agricultural companies, including producers of milk. The holding is one of the largest milk producers in Ukraine and aims to double its output in the next five years.
In 2010, Astarta increased EBITDA compared with the previous year by 84% to an equivalent of 92 million euros. The consolidated revenue in 2010 grew to 203 million euros, which is 73% higher than the 2009 result.
French Danone has 8 regional offices in Ukraine and oversees a dairy factory in Kherson (southern Ukraine), Danone Dnipro.
