2011-12-06 10:24:05

Ukraine-based Agroholding Avangard has become the second largest egg producer in the world, according to World Poultry, an international poultry industry magazine.

"Avangard has emerged as the second largest egg producer in the world. With 22 million hens in production, the company dominates in its native Ukraine and the EU and is second only to giant Cal-Maine Foods of the US with 29 million hens," World Poultry said in a statement.

"We are delighted to be recognized as the second largest egg producer in the world. We are focused on continuing to grow our business and increasing our economies of scale, and have thus far invested in the construction of two new large-scale egg production complexes, "Avis" and "Chornobaivske". These complexes will be constructed according to the latest technological standards in the international poultry sector. Following the launch of these complexes, Avangard is expected to rank as the largest world producer with 29 million hens and an output of 8.2 billion eggs annually," Oleg Bakhmatyuk, Chairman of the Company, commented.

In turn, Dr. Simon M. Shane, an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, Louisiana State University, said "Through entrepreneurship, application of modern technology, modern management and control systems, the Company has enjoyed phenomenal growth and profitability. Complete integration, efficiency and the relatively low cost of grains will contribute to profitability. This in turn will continue to fuel expansion of the company which is able to leverage these advantages in supplying both the domestic and international markets".

Avangard is one of the leading agroindustrial companies in Ukraine, focusing on the production of shell eggs and egg products. According to the Pro-Consulting Report, Avangard had a market share of approximately 26% of all shell eggs (43% of all industrially produced shell eggs) and 79% of all dry egg products produced in Ukraine in 2010. Avangard's production facilities are located in 14 of the 24 regions of Ukraine and also in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Avangard's shell eggs and egg products are either sold for export or sold on a wholesale basis in the domestic market.
