2011-10-31 15:28:10

The Cairo authority purchased 120,000 tons of wheat from Ukraine, its supply is planned for January 11-20, 2012, Vice President of the General Agency for Supply Commodities of Egypt Nomani Nomani has said.

Its average cost will make up about USD 248.5/ton, and transportation costs - USD 16.7/ton.

In 2008, Egypt stopped purchasing grain from Ukraine, considering its quality unsatisfactory. However, this decision was abolished this year.

Egypt, whose population exceeds 85 million, is the world's largest importer of wheat.

Over recent fiscal year, which completed June 30, main suppliers of Cairo were the USA, France, Canada, Australia and Argentina. In total, Egypt purchased 5.58 million tons of grain.

Earlier, President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Leonid Kozachenko informed that Egypt returned a status of the priority grain supplying country to Ukraine.
